Winery to host outdoor Symphony Concert

Bargersville, IN - Mallow Run Winery near Bargersville, Indiana, will host the Carmel Symphony Orchestra in an outdoor concert held on the winery grounds, Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 7:00 pm.

Sponsored by Johnson County based companies Heartland Community Bank, Duke Homes, and Welbourne Realty, the concert will benefit the Education Fund at the Johnson County Museum of History. John Richardson, one of the owners of Mallow Run said, "We are so happy to have Heartland Community Bank and Duke Homes & Welbourne Realty back with us again this year. I hope everyone realizes how these companies give back to the community and support the arts in Johnson County."

This is the second year for the winery/symphony partnership. In 2008, the Carmel Symphony played to a crowd of over 1000 joyful listeners. "We were very pleased with how the event was received last year, and we're looking forward to another great concert this year. I think people are longing for outdoor entertainment and this is just a great evening to be a part of," said Laura Richardson, one of the owners of Mallow Run and a playing member of the orchestra. Laura's husband Bill also plays in the orchestra.

The concert will consist of a variety of music, including marches, movie themes such as Star Wars and Harry Potter, and some well known classical pieces including Jupiter from Holst's The Planets. Also included on a few works this year will be tenor vocalist and Indianapolis Metro Police officer, Chris Wilburn. Laura commented, "Chris has such a presence about him on stage and has an amazing, powerful voice. I think the crowd will really enjoy his performance of The Battle Hymn of the Republic."

The Carmel Symphony Orchestra (CSO), under the direction of Artistic Director, Dr. David Bowden, was founded in 1976 as a volunteer community orchestra. The CSO is a "family-friendly" orchestra (families with young children are encouraged to attend), presenting six annual subscription concerts. Concerts are currently presented at area high schools and churches, but will move to the new Carmel Performing Arts Center upon its completion in October 2010. In addition, the CSO offers an educational concert for elementary students, presents a free outdoor concert for several thousand area residents annually at CarmelFest on the Fourth of July, performs at the Penrod Arts Fair, and will perform for the second time at Mallow Run Winery in a concert to support the Education Fund at the Johnson County Museum of History.
