Picnic your Way along the Uplands Wine Trail

SOUTHERN INDIANA - The Indiana Uplands Wine Trail, the first wine trail in Indiana , is celebrating its fifth birthday this summer with a picnic blanket giveaway. The trail is made up of nine Indiana wineries from one region, working together to offer customers a southern Indiana wine experience. The 2009-2010 Passport to the Uplands Wine Trail allows visitors to receive a stamp at each winery and when completed receive a free picnic blanket with the wine trail logo just for visiting all nine (9) wineries. The promotion runs until May 31st of 2010 and all participants are also automatically entered into a grand prize drawing for more gifts that takes place at the Vintage Indiana Wine & Food Festival in Indianapolis the first week of June. Grand prize winners this year were Kim Anderson from Floyd Knobs who won the Story Inn dinner/lodging stay and Tamala Foster of Louisville who won the lodging package at the Brown County Inn.

Over 1500 customers completed the passport program this past year. The new passports may be picked up at all participating wineries. Participating wineries include Best Vineyards (Elizabeth), Butler Winery ( Bloomington ), Brown County Winery ( Nashville ), Carousel Winery (Bedford), French Lick Winery ( West Baden ), Huber Winery (Starlight), Oliver Winery ( Bloomington ), Turtle Run Winery (Corydon), and Winzerwald Winery (Bristow).

The name of the trail originates from the unglaciated plateau running through south central and southern Indiana referred to as the Uplands. The wine trail boundary reaches from Martinsville south to the Ohio River with Highway 231 serving as the western border and I-65 as the eastern most boundary. Since the trail includes visits to nine wineries, everyone is encouraged to designate a driver and drink responsibly. Directions and additional events are posted on the wine trail web site at www.indianauplands.com.
