French Lick Winery wins White Wine of the Year at Indy International Wine Competition
FRENCH LICK, IN - French Lick Winery's 2008 Traminette was awarded the White Wine of the Year and the Indiana Traminette of the Year at the Indy International Wine Competition held at Purdue University August 4-6, 2010. Fifty-two judges from across North America traveled to Purdue University to evaluate nearly 2700 wines from 15 countries and 40 states. The Indy International is one of the largest wine competitions in the country.
Wines are presented to the judging panels in numbered glasses for a true blind tasting, lessening the chance of recognizing a wine by its bottle or label. The wines are evaluated on appearance, aroma, taste, and aftertaste. Wines can be awarded a gold, silver, bronze or no medal. The very best wines are awarded double gold, earning the right to compete for the best of show.
"I was stunned when they announced our Traminette as White Wine of the Year." said Kim Doty, owner of the French Lick Winery. "We are so honored to receive this award from such an internationally renowned competition."
Along with her husband, John, and sons Aaron and Nick, the Dotys started the French Lick Winery in 1995 and will be celebrating their 15th anniversary Sept. 4 and 5, 2010. The winery is located in West Baden Springs at 8145 W Sinclair Street in the former Kimball factory. Visitors may sample wines to purchase or have with a meal at the Vintage Café in the winery.
Traminette was named Indiana's Signature Grape in 2009. Since that time, nearly 30 of Indiana's 47 wineries are producing this wine.
