Huber's Starlight Distillery recently received top honor awards for their distilled spirits during the eight annual American Distilling Institute's (ADI) annual conference held in Portland, Oregon April 4-8. Huber's was the "top" winner in the overall brandy category with their Raspberry Infusion. Other award winners included Huber's Grappa, Applejack, Apple Brandy, and Reserve Brandy. And, to top it all off, Huber's Reserve Brandy received "Best of Class - 2 to 10 years of age" and the overall "Excellence in Packaging" of the 129 products submitted! Ted Huber had this to say about their recent awards, "It's exciting to see our artisan distillery elevate itself to the national stage by receiving these most prestigious awards. We were even luckier to be in attendance at the conference and on hand to personally receive the award that evening!"
As you can image, Portland, Oregon became the epicenter of the craft-distilling world for a week in April, when over 450 craft distillers, industry suppliers, mixologists, and top-flight judges and presenters descended on the iconic Benson Hotel for this conference and judging. Traditionally alternating between Louisville and San Francisco, this year's conference travelled North to Portland at the invitation of Jack Joyce of Rogue Brewing and Distilling in recognition of Oregon's legacy as an innovator in beer and wine production. Over 54 distilleries entered distilled products for judging in the two-day competition. Panels of four judges awarded 64 medals in a blind tasting panel format. Judges included Alexandre Gabriel, of Cognac Ferrand, Flavien Desoblin, of the Brandy Library in Manhattan, David Scheurich, former GM of Woodford Reserve Distillery, Julia Nourney, journalist and brandy expert, and Hubert Germain-Robin, creator of the top-shelf line of Germain-Robin brandies.
