West Lafayette, IN - Indiana's First Lady, Cheri Daniels, today announced that Indiana wine is being featured at select events held in the Governor's Residence in Indianapolis .
"During renovations to the Governor's Residence, we showcased many Indiana industries and artists in the design of the people's home. Serving Indiana wine at the Residence is one way to again highlight the amazing resources our state has to offer," said Daniels.
At the request of Governor Daniels and the First Lady, a wine tasting was conducted by the Indiana Wine Grape Council to determine three outstanding wines that will be served at private events hosted by the first family. Oliver Winery's Creekbend Chambourcin, Butler Winery's Indiana White and Huber Orchard and Winery's Raspberry Dessert Wine were selected to be served.
"I am very pleased that the governor and first lady recognize the Indiana wine industry for our excellent product," said Jim Butler, owner of Butler Winery in Bloomington . " Indiana wineries are making award-winning, internationally recognized wine and it's exciting that it will be shared with guests at the Governor's Residence."
"All three wines selected are outstanding," said Jeanette Merritt, marketing specialist for the Indiana Wine Grape Council. "The visitors to the Governor's Residence are going to enjoy the fruits of the wineries labor."
The Indiana wine industry boasts 35 commercial wineries and over 400 acres of grapes.
