Lovers of hot food from across the Midwest will soon gather in Madison, Indiana for the 10th Annual Indiana Hot Luck and Fiery Foods Exhibition at the Thomas Family Winery.
People from seven states will gather for the "Hot Luck" pitch-in dinner on April 4, 2008 with the hottest imaginable fiery foods and recipes to share with the other chileheads. There are even occasional foreign visitors who work the event into their holiday schedule. Mild dishes are also allowed for those less adventurous souls.
Saturday, April 5, is the "Exhibition", which features assorted vendors of chile products. Guests can sample salsas, sauces, purchase dried and fresh spices, hot breads, chili powder, vinegars, even pepper plants. Saturday Hours are from 12 Noon until 7:00 p.m., however the winery will remain open until at least 10:00 p.m.
Saturday highlights include a salsa contest with the winner receiving the coveted "Sombrero Grande." Entries in the homemade salsa contest need to be received by 1:00 pm on Saturday. The category awards of "Most Innovative," "Most Traditional," and "Best Overall" will be awarded around 5:00 pm. Prizes are guaranteed to be wacky. Evening entertainment features Rusty and Andra Bladen playing acoustic rock and original Americana.
